Correct me if I'm wrong, but it has always been my assumption that freeway ramps are long for a reason. Oh, I don't know, maybe so you don't have to slow down while on the freeway, or have to merge slowly into traffic.

the onramp is long so the drivers already on the freeway can see you coming. this gives them plenty of time for an attempt to block your pending merge… the off ramp is long so YOU have time to slow down for an intersection… in case it’s, slick or ICY for any reason…HA!
